Newport 29
IOLANTHE is a beautiful classic, built in cold-molded construction, launched in August 2008. She is the latest in the Herreshoff Newport 29 Class which started in 1914. Nathanael Herreshoff designed and built his own boat, Alerion, then by stretching out her lines by 33% and adding a deeper fixed keel the Newport 29 was created. There were three boats built in 1914 and a fourth built in 1926, all by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company. Three of these boats continue to sail and race in the Northeast US and abroad. IOLANTHE, true to her heritage, has won or placed in the top three in several races. Her interior was built in a traditional Herreshoff manner with painted raised paneling and mahogany trim.
